Description

This homemade masala chai spice mix is made with 7 deliciously warming spices like cardamom, and is perfect for an easy chai tea latte!


Ingredients

Chai Spice Mix

  • 4 tablespoons cardamom (kardemomme*)
  • 4 tablespoons cinnamon (kanel)
  • 3 tablespoons ground ginger (ingefær)
  • 1 tablespoon cloves (nellik)
  • 2 teaspoons allspice (allehånde)
  • 2 teaspoons nutmeg (muskat)
  • 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper (svart pepper)

Chai tea latte:

  • 1 cup whole milk (250 milliliters)
  • 1/2 cup water (125 milliliters)
  • 1 teaspoon black tea leaves (or one tea bag)
  • 1-2 teaspoon(s) chai spice mix

Instructions

  1. To make the chai spice mix: Combine all the ingredients together and add to an airtight glass container. Keeps for months in a dry environment.
  2. To make a chai tea latte: Combine all the ingredients in a small saucepan and bring it up to a gentle simmer. Take it off the heat and let it infuse for 5 minutes.
  3. If you want a stronger chai flavor, use a tea bag instead of loose tea leaves and take that out after 5 minutes and let the rest infuse for 30+ minutes. Re-heat.
  4. Strain into your favorite mug. Double-strain if you want to avoid all of the ground spices.
  5. If you want a dirty chai latte: Add a shot of espresso to this drink!
