Balsamic Blackberry Basil Grilled Cheese is a simple sandwich that is sweet with a little touch of savory from the peppery basil and balsamic. It's incredibly easy to assemble and doesn't require any cooking other than a toaster!
As I mentioned in my Blackberry Glazed Brussels Sprouts and Broccoli earlier this week, you will have some balsamic blackberry jam leftover from making the glaze. This is just a clever way of using the leftovers, you don't have to make the glaze in order to make this.
Although as Thanksgiving is approaching, I would make it anyway.
And if you crave a more savory sandwich, I can recommend this Middle Eastern style grilled feta cheese sandwich.
Step-by-step instructions
What you can do is mixing fresh blackberries with balsamic glaze or just blackberry jam and balsamic glaze. I just like a hint of the savory in this, so I also used blackberry jam and fresh blackberries on top.
Toast your favorite kind of bread. Spread cream cheese on two slices of toasted bread. On one slice of bread: spread a thin layer of the balsamic blackberry jam (or balsamic glaze + blackberry jam), and spread another thin layer with blackberry jam.
Cover with a small handful of fresh blackberries and fresh basil leaves. And an optional drizzle of maple syrup. Cover with the other cream cheese spread toast. Indulge!
This is so delicious and a perfect way to use any berries you may have around. You don't need fresh berries either, but it is preferable. When you crave that sweet breakfast, this is the thing this season!
Next, why don't you try this Everything Spice and Parmesan Crusted Grilled Cheese?
Enjoy!

Balsamic Blackberry Basil Grilled Cheese
A simple sandwich that is sweet with a little touch of savory from the peppery basil and balsamic. It's incredibly easy to assemble and doesn't require any cooking other than a toaster!
Ingredients
- 2 slices bread, your favorite
- 1-2 tablespoon cream cheese
- 2 teaspoon balsamic blackberry jam, * see notes
- 1 tablespoon blackberry jam
- small handfull fresh blackberries
- 3-5 fresh basil leaves
- ½ teaspoon maple syrup, optional
Instructions
- Toast your favorite kind of bread. Spread cream cheese on two slices of toasted bread.
- On the one slice of bread: spread a thin layer of the balsamic blackberry jam (or balsamic glaze + blackberry jam), spread another thin layer with blackberry jam. Cover with a small handful of fresh blackberries and fresh basil leaves.
- And an optional drizzle of maple syrup. Cover with the other cream cheese spreaded toast.
Notes
* This is the leftovers from the Blackberry Glazed Brussels Sprouts and Broccoli. I highly recommend this for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but if you don't want to make the blackberry glaze you can make a quick fix right now: 1 tablespoon blackberry jam mixed with ½ teaspoon blackberry glaze.
